NEXT LEVEL: Abigail Aponte Commits to Chico State
CHICO, Calif. - Allan Hancock College thrower, Abigail Aponte, has committed to continuing her academic and athletic career at Chico State University next season.
"I chose Chico State because they have an amazing environment. The coaches care about celebrating the accomplishments of their athletes and give them a lot of resources for success," Aponte shared.
Aponte wrapped up her second season with the Bulldogs this season. As a sophomore, she earned All-American honors with a fourth place finish at the state championship in the hammer throw. The Santa Maria native was also third at the regional meet and second at the Western State Conference Championship. As a freshman, Aponte won the first hammer title in program history for the women's team at the conference level.
"My time at Hancock prepared me for this next step by teaching me patience and resiliency when it comes to doing things that need to be done, with or without additional support," Aponte.
The Wildcats are a Division II member of the NCAA and compete in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
