SANTA MARIA-- The Allan Hancock College men's soccer team suffered its first Western State Conference loss of the season on Friday, 2-1 to visiting Santa Barbara City College.
Hancock (4-4-5, 2-1-0 WSC) suffered a pair of uncharacteristic defensive lapses late in the hard-fought contest, which turned a 1-0 Bulldog lead into a 2-1 defeat. Santa Barbara rallied for goals in the 75th and 82nd minute to erase AHC's narrow lead.
After a scoreless first half, the Bulldogs finally got on the board in the 51st minute when sophomore Tim Brockelhurst (Santa Maria) headded in a corner-kick assist from Arturo Diaz (Fr., Arroyo Grande). The Hancock defense, which had put forth a solid performance throughout the match and seemed poised to hold on for a one-goal win, finally broke down in the waning minutes.
AHC will try to get back on the winning track on Tuesday at Glendale College in a 7 p.m. start under the lights.
