FRESNO-- Coach Al Garcia's Allan Hancock College men's soccer team posted its most impressive win in recent years Tuesday, as the visiting Bulldogs upset highly rated Fresno City College, 3-2.
Hancock (2-1-4) had played the same Rams to a draw, then advanced on penalty kicks two weeks prior in the Hartnell Tournament. Coach Garcia was advised that Fresno CC was ranked fourth in the national JC pre-season rankings.
Freshman Edgar Miranda (Santa Maria HS) was involved in all three of the Bulldog goals. He broke a scoreless tie in the 37th minute off a pass from Ivan Gomez (Fr., Nipomo HS), then gave AHC a 2-0 lead in the 50th minute on an assist from former SMHS teammate and fellow freshman Efrain Baez.
Miranda, who led the Saints to a CIF Southern Section Division IV championship as the CIF Divisional Player of the Year last spring, passed to Autro Diaz (Fr., Arroyo Grande) for the clincher in the 76th minute.
The Bulldogs continue their rugged non-conference schedule at Ohlone College in Fremont on Saturday.
