OXNARD OVERHAULS MEN'S SOCCER, 4-3
SANTA MARIA-- What appeared to be a promising start for the Allan Hancock College men's soccer team turned into a disappointing loss Wednesday, as Oxnard College rallied from two two-point deficits to defeat the Bulldogs, 4-3.
Hancock (1-8-1, 0-4-1 WSC) entered the match attempting to break a three-match drought and notch its first conference win of the season, but it was not to be.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring early, as John Boswell scored off an assist from Jose Olivera in the third minute. Victor Velasco's goal on a free-kick in the 25th minute increased the margin to 2-0.
Oxnard scored on a corner kick in the 34th minute, but scarcely a minute later, Velasco gave AHC another two-goal lead on an unassisted 35-yarder that was a thing of beauty. Just four minutes later, Oxnard cut it to 3-2, when the Bulldog defense lapsed.
The second half was all Condors, as Oxnard smothered the ball in the Bulldog zone. The Condors scored the tying goal in the 50th minute and what would prove to be the game winner in the 65th minute.
AHC has the first of two scheduled conference byes on Friday, before attempting to get back in the win column in a 4 p.m. start at Glendale on Oct. 5.
