Baseball's Luke Kovach Inks with Cal Poly SLO
SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Allan Hancock College pitcher, Luke Kovach, has signed with Cal Poly (SLO) to continue his academic and athletic career beginning in the 2023-24 season.
"I attended the youth camps and baseball games at Cal Poly while growing up and it has always been a dream school of mine ever since. The school is close to home, so I will have the chance to play in front of my home crowd. I'm also super excited about the fact that my whole family is going to have the opportunity to still watch me play for another two years," Kovach shared.
The Lompoc native earned three starts and appeared in 16 games last season while registering two wins. Kovach tossed a total of 45 innings en route to a 3.20 ERA and 63 strikeouts. As a freshman, the Cabrillo High School alum was tabbed as First Team All-Conference honoree for his relief work. Kovach ended the regular season ranked 14th in the state amongst closing arms after being credited with six saves on the bump.
"AHC has provided me with such a positive and supportive environment. The coaching staff here is by far the best coaching staff that I have ever played for," Kovach added. "They have such a high level of experience and they have worked so hard to prepare every player in our program to succeed at the next level. I love Allan Hancock and the relationships that I've made while being here."
Kovach and the Bulldogs are set to open the 2023 season with a two-day trip to College of the Sequoias, beginning on January 27th.
